Motorists are encouraged by the DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) to carry out a series of simple checks to cut down on the chances of their vehicle failing an MOT test.

The latest MOT testing data for Great Britain shows that around 40% of cars fail their MOT at the first attempt.

The common MOT fails concern are light bulbs, tyre condition, tyre pressures and mirrors, wipers and washers.

Figures show that many failure faults relate to lighting and signalling or to tyre condition and pressure, with the "driver’s view of the road" causing problems with mirrors, wipers and washers.
